What our 2026 Skills Shortage Survey is telling us.

When mining workforces had 20 or 25 years of average experience, capability built itself. Supervisors had operated every piece of equipment in the plant and operators knew the circuit. Today the same operations are running with workforces averaging two or three years, and supervisors who have never run the plant they manage.

More training is the usual response. The harder problem is converting what people know into what they do on shift. A trained engineer becomes proficient when the structure around them turns knowledge into judgment.

This session walks through three practical components of that structure. Role-specific maps that anchor what good looks like on site. Daily routines that build judgment in the flow of work. And ways to capture decision-making from senior people before that experience walks out the door.
