Introduction

Environmental Excellence in Exploration (E3), from which the E3 courses are derived, is a comprehensive reference of good environmental practices for exploration. E3 was developed through the contributions of industry leaders, and managed by the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC).

The E3 courses provide users with field-proven guidelines on exploration activities, community engagement and environmental practices, and empower users to take responsibility for environmental stewardship and minimize the impact of exploration.

Environmental Excellence in Exploration (E3) employs a "real world" approach to providing information on the issues and possible solutions to them. The intention is to help in asking the right questions and finding the appropriate answers, and thereby improve the skill level of explorationists. Similarly, if the information helps explorationists recognize when they should be seeking the assistance of experts, then that knowledge is also a positive step.

This course, titled Community Engagement, provides an overview of the concepts, principles, and applications for building a positive relationship with the local community and other parties of interest to a mineral exploration project. The course is designed to present a comprehensive picture of the subject and contains more detail than a smaller, early-stage exploration program might require. Users can therefore extrapolate from those portions that are relevant to any stage of a particular program. Topics covered by the course include ...

  • Social Dimensions to Exploration
  • Leading Issues of Engagement
  • Corporate Requirements
  • Tools and Models for Community Engagement
  • Working with Indigenous Peoples
  • Archaeological and Cultural Sites
