Notes on Weighting of Factors for Relative Importance
  • This tool determines percentage weights for a set of disparate factors (A, B, C, etc.) based on their relative importance.
  • The results provide a basis for collective measurement of a set of factors that otherwise have little in common. For example, in monitoring of performance, it allows combining of normalized indicators (such as productivity, cost, quality, timeliness, safety, overtime, absenteeism) in a way that reflects their relative importance.
  • The maximum number of factors that can be considered is seven.
For application of this technique in a maintenance management context, see "Performance Measurement" in the EduMine course on Maintenance Management.
