EduMine Campus Dictionary of Mining, Mineral and Related Terms
EduMine Newsbrief - October 30 2000

The Dictionary of Mining, Mineral and Related Terms was originally compiled by the US Bureau of Mines in 1996. This version contained more than 26,000 terms and definitions and was considered a valuable resource for the mining community. The USBM has since ceased operations.

We have recently translated the original HTML content of the dictionary to the new XML web standard and have added an XML-based viewer interface. The advantages of XML included a reduced bandwidth requirement, efficient search and retrieval functionality, and enhanced viewer interaction. In the interests of maintaining the dictionary as a viable and useful resource for the mining community, we have also included facilities for viewers to propose new terms and definitions, and will continue to provide the necessary ongoing support.

We hope you find the dictionary a useful tool. Should you have any suggestions for ways in which we can improve either the content of the dictionary or the viewer interface, then please e-mail these to us.

Try the new XML version of the Dictionary of Mining, Mineral and Related Terms now.
