The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) supports UBC and EduMine with development of unique courses designed to meet the lifelong learning needs of the mining community. Each course integrates an online remote learning component with an intensive two-or-three day campus study component. Completion of required and elective courses leads to a Certificate in Mining Studies from UBC Continuing Studies. A number of such courses will be presented by UBC Mining Engineering at an annual Summer Institute of Mining Studies. |

CIM (www.cim.org) is the leading technical society of professionals in the Canadian minerals, metals, materials and energy industries. CIM was founded in 1898 and has more than 10, 000 national members. In the words of Yvan Jacques, executive director of CIM - "These lifelong learning courses are a direct complement to our professional development program for those working in exploration, mining, mineral processing, metallurgy, and related industries. The unique format of the courses is tailored to the learning requirements of the mining community." |

The UBC Certificate in Mining Studies encompasses online, classroom and project-based study. The online components are delivered via Edumine while classroom and project-based components are delivered annually through the UBC Summer Institute in Mining Studies. CIM, in collaboration with UBC and EduMine, will support and peer-review the development of both online and classroom course components. |

The Summer Institute includes a series of topical courses by world-renowned experts, selected by UBC's internationally recognized Department of Mining Studies, who bring their knowledge and innovative research to the classroom. The intensive learning format offers an opportunity to learn, problem-solve, discuss and share new ideas while minimizing valuable time away from the worksite. The courses combine the self-learning advantages of online learning with the peer-review and mentoring benefits of the classroom. |
