The Mining Method Selection Tool is based on a version of the Nicholas approach (Nicholas 1981), modified by the Rock Mechanics Group of the University of British Columbia (see the course
Underground Mining Methods and Equipment on EduMine), for selection of mining method based on orebody characteristice. Selection involves summation and ranking of numerical values associated with orebody characteristics that reflect the suitability of a particular method. This interactive presentation of the selection process allows you to investigate the influence of orebody characteristics on the selection of appropriate mining methods.
The Mining Method Selection Tool is available either as a graphics version or a plain text version. For the graphics version you will need the Adobe SVG Viewer plug-in which can be downloaded free from Adobe's site by clicking the Adobe icon at the end of this page.
