Professor Dennis Buchanan
Emeritus Professor of Mining Geology and Senior Research Fellow, Imperial College London

Prof. Dennis Buchanan Professor Buchanan, the Course Director, has worked as a Mining Geologist in both gold and platinum mines in South Africa. . He is founder and Chairman of the Imperial College start-up company, IC-FinEval Ltd, which provides financial evaluation, risk assessment and decision making software. He has 26 years experience teaching mining geology, mineral exploration and mineral project appraisal and is responsible for the MSc in Metals and Energy Finance program. He has also had wide experience as a consultant in the exploration, evaluation and exploitation of mineral deposits, acting as an expert witness and in running short courses for industry.

Mr. Pelletier is a process chemist/metallurgist by training with fourteen years in industry and twenty-five years in resource related environmental consulting. He has dedicated his entire professional career to the practice and dissemination of sound environmental principles in the resource industry. Since 1981, Mr. Pelletier has been retained as a consultant to a number of international mining companies, to assist with feasibility studies, conceptual design, project development, environmental licensing and project management.

Mr. Pelletier has managed the environmental work for a number of major projects including the Ekati Diamond Mine project for BHP Billiton Diamonds Inc., Voisey's Bay Nickel for Inco, Minera Escondida for BHP, Goro Nickel Project for Inco, Quebrada Blanca Copper Project for Cominco, Minahasa Project for Newmont, Batu Hijau STP Project for Newmont, Cayeli Bakir Project for Inmet, Galore Creek Project for NovaGold and numerous others. He has also managed numerous acid rock drainage studies, industrial water treatment studies, fish compensation plans, and qualitative risk assessments for the Government of the Northwest Territories, the Province of British Columbia and the Federal Government.
