COURSE DETAILS

Provisional Schedule

Instruction will take place from 9:00AM to 5:00PM each day, with a lunch break from noon to 1:00PM and 15 minute snack breaks in mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Topics covered will include the following.

  • Introduction to the Quality Control of Assays
  • ISO quality system, the nature of error, and salting
  • Statistical parameters commonly used in error analysis - measures of central tendency, measures of variability, linear models.
  • Simple graphical procedures.
  • Statistical tests commonly used in treating duplicate analyses - F - test, t - test, paired t - test, testing linear models for bias, why statistical tests are essential (with examples)
  • Practical measures of sampling, subsampling and analytical errors - Thompson-Howarth method, and the RMA linear approach
  • Sources of sampling, subsampling and analytical variability
  • Monitoring and quantifying data quality (with examples)
  • General discussion and questions
