Doctor Douglas Sweeney
Douglas Sweeney is a practicing professional geologist and mining engineer, licensed to practice in Alberta and British Columbia. Doug currently works for the Ministry of Energy of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources as a Senior Inspector of Mines for the South Central Region, after completing a two year term as Chief Inspector of Mines for the Province of British Columbia. Previously, Doug has held positions as the Health, Safety, Environment and Community Advisor, North America and Europe with BHP Billiton (2 years), the Superintendent of Health, Safety and Environment, Sudbury Operations with Falconbridge (4 years) and Senior Mines Inspector with Alberta Labour (9 years).
Doug has a diverse back-ground in the oil, gas and mining industries and holds numerous diplomas in risk management, accident investigation and emergency response. Doug holds a MSc. in Mining Engineering from the University of Alberta, and currently is completing his PhD in Mining Engineering with the University of British Columbia. He is the 2006 recipient of Lt Governor General’s Award for Innovations in Public Safety, as well as commendations for his role in emergency response and investigation of at mining and oil and gas related events throughout his career. Doug resides in Kamloops with his wife, Lorilee and their four children. |
