Course Summary

Introduction

Equipment must be prepared for disassembly after a major break or for maintenance. The pump to be repaired is generally assembled in parallel with other pumps. It must therefore be isolated.

When dismantling a pump for maintenance, it is important to make sure that there are no immediate consequences on production if the pump is stopped. In order to maximize pump efficiency, it is important to respect the assembly suggested by the manufacturer.

This course covers the logical sequence for pump assembly and disassembly as well as the tools to be used.

Topics covered in this course include:

  • pumping theory,
  • pump characteristics,
  • shut-down procedure,
  • packing replacement,
  • pump disassembly,
  • post-disassembly inspection,
  • pump assembly,
  • start-up procedure,
  • centrifugal pump simulation, and
  • suggestions for practical exercises.

Learning Outcomes

  • Formulate a logical sequence for the assembly and disassembly of a pump using the tools specific for the operation.
  • During installation, apply the required adjustments for the proper operation of a pump.

Recommended Background

  • This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance, or conditional monitoring for mining applications.

HumEng International

HumEng provides online courses and assessments for mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance, and condition monitoring for applications in mining.

The HumEng mission is to design, develop and implement training solutions that increase operational efficiency and productivity, and to sustain these improvements through training best practices.

The HumEng approach to training is based on skills management. Experience has proven that the acquisition of key skills, and the transfer of these skills to the shop floor, increases a company's competitiveness. This is even truer today, when operations must often rely on fewer employees, due to rationalization or to recruiting challenges.
