Janis specializes in mitigating health impacts associated with extractive industry projects. She has worked with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in developing and developed nations. Based on her PhD in mining engineering from the University of British Columbia and her expertise as a health scientist, Janis understands how to balance operational necessities with the well-being of communities. Her specialization in health impact assessment, community health and development indicators, stakeholder engagement, and impact mitigation strategies contribute to ensuring that Monkey Forest's social performance management practice delivers sustainable results. With Monkey Forest, Janis leads the development of community health and safety management plans for our clients. With UBC and the University of Victoria, Janis is leading one of the largest research projects in Canada focused on community health and the extractive industry.
