Dr. Carl Marx is a mining engineer and has worked in the mining industry for the past 40 years in various positions, including senior management, government mining engineering and private consultant. He is knowledgeable on a wide variety of mining types and methodologies including narrow vein hard rock mining (gold and platinum), block caving mining (diamond), board and pillar and long wall mining (coal), open pit mining (coal, gold, copper, kaolin, bauxite), dimension stone mining (granite) and various types of aggregate mining. Dr. Marx is a qualified Mining Engineer with a Mine Manager's certificate of Competency form the South African Government, a Bachelors of Commerce degree (B.Com), a Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) and a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA). He was previously employed on a part time basis at the University of South Africa (UNISA) as the risk management lecturer for a period of 4 years and as an eternal student himself has a good understanding of the academic world.
His experience in more than 14 countries around the globe provides him with the cultural sensitivity to consult in most countries. Dr. Marx is currently employed as a specialist advisor to a mining company in Saudi Arabia. He is passionate about passing on his knowledge and experience to the next generation of mining engineers. Dr. Marx has a wide variety of publications in international magazines on subjects that ranges from mining finance and project management to mining legislation and safety and health as well as a chapter (Introduction to Safety Management) in a textbook "Management for Engineers, Technologists and Scientists" edited by Nel, WP and published by Juta, Cape Town, South Africa.
